The Truth can Hurt – You

I saw this in the comments of a blog entry talking about the recent decision by Professor Michael Byers (Duke University) to give up his U.S Green Card and return to Canada. Prior to this comment there was one on the ignorance of Americans to international affairs and geography.

Richard Aubrey:
Every American generation learns a particular bit of geography particularly well.
You don’t want to be in the area with which we are in the process of becoming familiar.
You really don’t.

Better we remain ignorant of your area. We would prefer it, and, we guarantee, so would you.

Thank you Mr. Aubrey, I never thought about our knowledge of the world in these terms but how interesting. We are not quite as bad as the Borg, but you’ll still hope that your country keeps a low profile. After all, you never know when we may decide to assimilate you. :-)
