So, I’ve been told that I need to come up with monikers for the rest of the guys in our men’s group. Ugh!
Rong – yeah that’s me, but why you ask? Silly ol’you…
I used to play the online game and vortex of death called Everquest, but known to all as Evercrack. My main character was a paladin. Now paladins are religious warriors – think crusades. They have an innate ability to kill the dead, i.e. zombies, ghouls, skeletons, you get the idea. My characters name was Rongisnom the Requiest. Rongisnom being Monsignor spelled backwards and Requiest being a play on the work Requiem. I used to joke that the name meant I sang the final lament for the dead as I permanently put them out of their misery. When I got into blogging I wanted a nickname instead of using my real name, so I first started using Rongisnom but that’s just too long – so Rong it is.
OK, so one guy is easy, because I’ve been referring to him as this for the past 11 years.
The Pot Stirrer - use it however you wish, i.e. He who Stirs the Pot…
And just what is a pot stirrer? From the Phrase Finder:
Deliberately provocative, yes, but not necessarily maliciously. Picture a pot of soup. A lot of ingredients have settled to the bottom, out of sight, until stirred. Metaphorically, a lot of issues/resentments/obligations can drop out of sight when nobody mentions them. One can “stir the pot” to bring issues to the surface, sometimes with malice, but sometimes merely to create awareness and effect change.
Dude, you so know which one you are!
Yakuza – is a vertically challenged Phillipino guy who’s built like a Sherman Tank from years of weightlifting. When we first met he sported a pony tail and always wore dark wrap-around sunglasses. The only thing missing were the tats. We always joked that he looked like he was straight out of the Japanese mob. A walking compilation of Thesaurus and Dictionary his fine use or words is as keen as a double edged sword.
The Unfettered Monk - I originally met him in a young adults small group which he was leading out of his home on Thru. nights. He was working at our church as an intern, but stepped out of the ministry and went into software development. He was actually one of the people who convinced me to get out of truck driving and go into Lotus Notes development. He’s an incredible teacher with a humble yet boisterous heart. As for the moniker – “Unfettered” just happens to be a catch word that he’s fond of using and “Monk” I was actually playing that off the good Michael Spencer at Internet Monk (forgive me Mike).
The Maestro – not sure if I like this one or not as it’s almost too simple. This guy has an incredible love of music which he gets from his parents and shares with his wife and kids. Up until this past week he’s been leading our church choir, but due to increasing commitments finds himself stretched a bit too thin to continue.
I’m at a total loss for the last guy in the group. I’ve known him the shortest amount and yet in some ways feel the closer to him than to the others. We’re very much on the same wave length when it comes to the Men’s Ministry at church and getting this new men’s group going. He’s a very solid and dependable person who really has a passion to see the men at church come together to support one another.
Sorry, but until I come up with something better you are Quercus alba; you enjoy full sun but can thrive in an acidic environment, your difficult to move and dislike being disturbed but you sought after for the shade that you provide. Yup, that kind of describes you.
OK, I’m done being weird and all monikers up for discussion and change.
