Just the other day I wrote a short post about trying to use Windows Live Writer as a desktop blogging tool. After installing the application I tried to connect it to this blog but I kept getting a 403 error due to an incompatibility with the Bad Behavior plugin.
Amazingly I found that I had a comment from a gentleman named Joe Cheng from Microsoft informing me that they had updated Live Writer and had worked out the problem with the plugin. So Joe if you’re out there perusing the blogsphere looking for use of your application I bring you this post.
As a Lotus Notes developer I must give out a formal "boo" to Microsoft. Now with that formality out of the way I can say that without having done a thing yet I like the interface. You gotta give creds to Microsoft when it comes to UI design, there look and feel is rarely surpassed by other application developers. Add to that the fact that almost anyone is familiar with the menu layout and you are quickly figuring out how to use Live Writer without ever pulling open a help document.
Here is a picture of yours truly sewing up Mr. Monkey while under the watchful eye of Tigger, who happens to be the cause of Mr. Monkey’s untimely demise.
Live Writer has a number of nifty command actions allowing you to insert pictures (like above) or the table seen below.
| Table dropped in | from Live Writer |
| Cell3 | Cell4 |
Live Writer also has an Insert Map function that’s hooked to Virtual Earth unfortunately I kept getting an Error: ‘VELatLong’ is undefined.
Ahem – Mr. Cheng are you out there?
On a kewl note I screen captured that error and simply pasted it into this post. ala Word.
I’m not sure if this insert of a video hosted on YouTube will work. It’s from the halls of Rockville HS where my son goes.
Obviously this product is still in Beta but I have to say I’m liking what I’ve seen so far.
Thanks Joe for the heads up on the fix.

Do you get the VELatLong error if you try it now? Every once in a great while there are weird things that happen on the Maps servers.
