Unfettered Monk

Published by The Unfettered Monk

Recently my older brother asked me if I would preach at his funeral. I agreed as long as he promised to preach at mine and a bargain was struck.

I did place one condition on his preaching at my funeral which was that he would make certain to describe me as a horrible, wretched, miserable, chiefest of sinners.

First I want him to do that because it is true and secondly in order that he might magnify the glorious wonderful amazing unspeakable grace of the Father who is both just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood…

With regards to this earthly life, which I protestingly live under the sun, I will provide a few further details if only to provide those who might read a better context out of which to understand my ramblings.

I was very young when I was born so I cannot recall much of my early years…

Lets skip to more present times. I went to college in Virginia and became heavily involved in a campus para-church organization. I eventually graduated and went on to join that organization. I spent three years on staff with them before leaving to pursue a seminary education. Theologically I was reforming… meaning I was beginning to move theologically toward the Reformed position though I could not at that time have articulated what that meant.

I worked for a year as a youth pastor at a small Baptist church and then attended seminary in Orlando, Florida. While there I worked as an intern at a Presbyterian church (PCA) and sat under the teaching of R.C. Sproul, Reggie Kidd, Steve Brown, Ronald Nash, Frank James, Al Mawhinney and Richard Pratt.

When I left there I went to work for a Presbyterian church (ARP) in the Washington DC area. After a year as an intern there I left the ministry entirely…

Currently I work as a computer techy guy in DC and I preach and teach on the side. I’m married and have three wonderful children (or as Jonathan Edwards referred to them - “little vipers”)

My favorite author right now is John Owen. There’s a new edition of three classic works of John Owen on Sin called Overcoming Sin and Temptation (lousy title but it sells better than Owen’s originals) out right now edited by Kapic and Taylor and with a forward by John Piper. Get it. Read it.
