On Hawkings

Albert Mohler has an interesting post on Stephen Hawkings. I was particularly caught by a comment from Hawkings.

“We are such insignificant creatures on a minor planet of a very average star on the outer suburbs of one of a hundred thousand million galaxies. So it is difficult to believe in a God that would care about us or even notice our existence.”

I think about that statement from my Christian worldview and instead of not seeing God in the equation, I see him all the more. I am left with an overwhelming feeling of awe that he would go to such great lengths to so clearly show himself to such “insignificant creatures”. I’m left to wonder how saddened God must be with Stephen Hawkings, a man who has been gifted with some of the greatest insight to so clearly see God’s work in creation and yet remain at the same time profoundly blind.
I am left to simply pray that in Mr. Hawkings final moments God will be revealed too him and that he will be called home.

When Tradition Becomes Religion

After reading Christmas Controversy on Wikipedia I was left with the need to take a serious look at my own, emotionally  rabid, thoughts and prejudices.  If I have time I will add to this post, but in the mean time gloss over the Wikipedia article.  There are some very interesting and disturbing realities regarding the history of the festival known as Christmas.

2011 Seagull Century

Starting Time 7:09 AM
Finish Time 12:48 PM

Total ride time was 4:32:51, 66.20 miles, average 14.56 mph
Total time stopped time 1:07:04

Well like I learned doing the long distance motorcycling it’s all about staying in the saddle. Not that this was a race, heck Gordon and I were just grateful to finish after being punished by headwinds the last 10 miles, but if we hadn’t enjoyed ourselves so much at the rest stops… And honestly the rest stops were great. This was my first organized biking event and it was incredibly well managed. Plenty of food and refreshments at each of the stops. Plus live music – that’s what tied us up, we were just enjoying ourselves way too much.

We’re already looking forward to doing this again next year, but we want to do a full Century in 2012. We have high aspirations. :-)
